February 3, Sunny Gorgeous Colors
Share
Boy, can you believe it’s already February! A few thoughts today. I love the glass community and collaborating with others. What joy we can bring to each other’s work, nudging us to keep our creative juices flowing and when new ideas pop into our heads…it’s thrilling. So there will be something new next week that my friend Lisa saw in another murrini when she was in the shop chopping and said “This kinda looks like a …” and so I modified a few things and made one! It’s cute so stay tuned for next week!
This week we are letting the SUN SHINE! All COE 96 Oceanside Glass and they will be available here on my website tomorrow, Feb. 3, at NOON Central time!
The Sample below has most of this week’s murrini in it!
I’m loving this week’s pulls and this little sample won’t be leaving my shop! 🤣
Red and Yellow Tulip Duo
These beautiful tulips are best at a light tack fuse due to their delicate outer shape. You’ll get equal amounts of both designs in the order unless an additional cane was needed for weight. Size may vary slightly in your order. 1.5oz $26
Long Slender Green Tulip Leaves
The leaves this week will be sold separately (they are very versatile) just in case you’d like an entire package to create something fun like the Herb Garden below. I had too much fun creating samples this week. I was quite giddy. 🤣 Anyhoo…these leaves will be 1.5oz for $26 which is about 12-15 two-inch long canes. I made the entire Herb Garden with ONE CANE just snipped super thin. When you place your wheeled nippers in the center of the cane, it makes the murrini chip slightly curved like a shallow ‘C’. Use this to your advantage when placing it over a stringer! It rests over the top perfectly. Isn’t this sweet? Perfect for a little Herb Garden Stake.
I snipped one cane down into very thin slivers and dipped each one very lightly in some glue and placed over my stringers. I prefer to not use glue when I can, but because these were all so close to each other and my hands are a bit shaky…I was bumping them all over the place! 😅 This adorable idea came off of a gift bag that Lisa brought into the shop. It’s fun where our ideas come from sometimes! I lightly fused all my samples this week at my normal light tack fusing schedule:
300>1150>30
350>1300>no hold
9999>950>2 hours
150>700>10
300>room temp
I used a little bit of Easy Fire black enamel paint from my Cheryl Chapman class to paint the word HERBS on.
Daisies!
This week I have four kinds of daisies that are packaged individually. The odd ball is the pink one, but I promised pink daisies this week, so here they are! 🤗 The other three are coordinating. They all have unique centers that change beautifully throughout the pull. I REALLY enjoyed making these cuties. Each package is 1.5oz for $26. Underneath each photo is a fully fused sample of the daisy side by side showing it from the top and from the underneath.
Orange Daisy
Yellow Daisy
Vanilla Cream Daisy
And all three tack fused in one of Mike’s Open Bails:
Vanilla Cream and Pink Daisy
This week I also have two versions of a Fancy Ripple Petal. One is the traditional version with the fun scalloped edges and more of a circle shape, the other is new and more of a softer wavy outside. But they pair up nicely as they are each other’s opposite. These are a TACK FUSE item, but I do have a photo below showing them fully fused from the front and the back. They are still beautiful this way, just very different. Especially from the front and the back. A great murrini for the Flip and Fuse Technique. Each package is 1.5oz for $26 and will have varying sizes of the inner design. Some may be fully surrounded but the outer color and some may extend all the way to the outside of the petal. This won’t make a difference when tack fusing, but will be more noticeable in a full fuse.

Next I have some matching fun shapes with coordinating colors for the week. These will be sold in Multi-size packages and you’ll get well over a dozen canes ranging from Large to TINY! The circles make the coolest design elements (see vase above) and the teardrop shape can be used as a leaf, a sprouting bud, grouped to make a gorgeous flower, or like I did this week…made them into a little mosaic. Honestly…these are just too much fun! The designs will change throughout the pull and they were carefully packaged so there would be a nice variety of sizes in inner colors in each little bag. 1.5oz $26
Orange/Yellow Circles Multi-size
Orange/Yellow Teardrops Multi-size
Some fun creations using these:
Images above and below were created inside one of Mike’s torchworked bails.
Next let’s chat about ROSES! Roses change throughout the pull and some will have more of a loose look and some will have more of a tight fuller appearance. I did the Flip and Fuse Technique on these showing you all the different looks the centers might have. If the flip and fuse technique is new to you, this was a technique developed by Lori Moreno from Wilderness Glass where you put a 5-6mm murrini chip on a 3/8 X 3/8 piece of 3mm clear glass, full fuse, then clean, flip and fully fuse again to watch the underneath design blossom into something amazing. More on this in my TIPS section of the website, but the first image below shows the roses on the clear 3mm going in for the first full fuse. The second image shows the fully fused rose from the TOP, then cleaned and flipped over in the third photo (it’s hard to see but the are flat on the top) then fully fused again to round the top, make them spread even more, then ready to fuse into your scene.
Like a little police lineup 🤭 they are all gorgeous. I also used this week’s Slender Green Leaf to accent these little beauties. You’ll receive 1.5oz for $26
Flat-End Daisy Petal
This week it seemed like the Flat-End Daisy Petals were a perfect fit. These will be sold by themselves and you’ll have unlimited design options with this versatile petal. They can be grouped around a small dot to be a daisy, a murrini daisy can be placed on the top of the underlying petals (see samples below), they could be a single bud on a stem coming out of a garden, or placed in a larger circle with darker frit in the middle to become more of a sunflower. So many fun options. These are made with Oceanside’s Sunflower Yellow. These are beautiful tack fused to fully fused.
A fun little sample inside one of Mike’s Open Bails and topped with this week’s Orange Daisy
Also a fun way to make a cute design using a half murrini.
The fun thing about the Flat-End Daisy petal is you can make the flower as large or small as you want depending on how many petals you put in your circle.
Here’s a dime for size reference.
Finally this week, Cardinals are back. 😉
1.5oz will be approximately 7-8 two-inch long canes. These are a tack fuse item and are best snipped with sharp wheeled nippers. At about 3mm per snip, you should get around 15 Cardinals from each two-inch cane. $27
Praying you all a very blessed week!
HINTS on the HORIZON
Next week my theme is going to be “Find me in a tree” 😄 That’s your only hint.
